The higher the quality of your instrument, the more sensitive its mechanism can be to changes in humidity and temperature. From experience, you know how frustrating it can be to depend on a repairer for nothing more than a quarter-turn of a screw just before going on stage.

This workshop won’t turn you into a professional repairer. Instead, it will teach you the anatomy of your own instrument, enabling you to maintain its optimal performance from day to day, without ever compromising its value.

For the full-day modules, all professional tools and consumables will be provided (leak-detection lights, precision screwdrivers, Mylar paper, oils, replacement pads and cork in various thicknesses). If you already own a screwdriver or maintenance kit, we encourage you to bring it along so that we can check together whether it is perfectly suited to your oboe. For the Beginner Module (2.5 hours), all you need to bring is your oboe and your usual swab.

Hautbois Futé workshops focus on fine mechanical adjustments, optimisation and preventive maintenance. If the initial assessment reveals that your instrument requires major repair work involving specialist instrument craftsmanship (straightening a key rod, soldering, crack repair, repositioning the piperelle, bore correction, etc.), we will make sure your oboe is safe and stable for the duration of the workshop. However, I will refer you to a specialist repair workshop for the work itself.

Oboe repair and maintenance require patience and a methodical approach, but no particular technical skills or previous experience. My workshops are designed to introduce each concept in a progressive, visual and highly practical way. If you know how to hold a screwdriver, you already have all the basic skills you need to learn how to adjust the keywork linkages on your oboe! The rest is simply a matter of self-confidence and a little courage. Overcoming our fears and discovering that they were unfounded all along is a wonderful achievement in itself.

Every session includes a dedicated period for playing tests and final adjustments. Before the workshop ends, I personally check that each oboe is in good working order and that all pads are sealing properly.
