Being able to rely on yourself is a gift in itself. As the old saying goes, it is better to teach someone how to fish than to give them a fish — and this is particularly true when it comes to looking after your own instrument.
Murphy’s Law has a habit of striking at the worst possible moment: our oboe will often decide to misbehave the day before a concert or on the day of an exam. At times like these, we can feel completely helpless. Stress levels soar, and our usual repair technician is rarely available at the drop of a hat.
That is precisely why I created these workshops: to help you overcome your fear of working on the oboe’s mechanism — a fear often rooted simply in a lack of knowledge — and guide you towards genuine independence.
Taking the time to observe, analyse and understand how your oboe works is one of the best investments you can make. You will gain valuable perspective when faced with stressful situations, learn to act calmly and confidently, and enjoy greater peace of mind in your everyday playing.
