Advanced Training for Professionals
The Format
- 4 modules
-
Durée : 90 mins par module
- Prix: 290.-chf (possibility for a 2 person training, 250.-chf per participant)
By the end of this training, you will have gained:
• Genuine Independence: You’ll know how to distinguish between adjustments and repairs you can safely carry out yourself and those that should be entrusted to a specialist. For tasks within your capabilities, you’ll have the confidence to tackle them yourself.
• The Right Technical Skills: You’ll become thoroughly familiar with the use of specialist instrument-repair tools, learning how to avoid damaging mistakes and protect your oboe at every stage.
• Skills for the Future: You’ll leave with new practical skills, knowledge and confidence to help you care for and maintain your instrument independently in the years ahead.
Module I
Methodological Foundations and Left-Hand Keywork Mechanics
Objectives :
Developing a methodical approach and sharing knowledge among participants.
Theoretical and Practical Content:
• Overview of the fundamentals, including screw rotation directions and how to describe each adjustment technique precisely.
• Left-hand keywork adjustments, applying the primary/secondary key principle and ensuring comfortable key action.
• Complete disassembly of the upper joint, following a systematic procedure for organising and storing key rods, pivots and octave mechanisms, followed by an inspection of the corks, wood and tone holes.
Module II
Prioritising Adjustments and Understanding the Mechanics of the Lower Joint
Objectives :
Consolidating knowledge of adjustment priorities, identifying the keywork areas affected by these priorities, and applying a systematic adjustment procedure.
Theoretical and Practical Content:
Theoretical and Practical Content
• Adjustment of the lower joint, applying the principle of adjustment priorities to the E key and its neighbouring keys.
• Analysis of the mechanical parallels between the upper and lower joints, and identification of the correct order of adjustment priorities (1, 2, 3).
• Techniques for disengaging an interfering intermediate key mechanism, and examining the consequences of incorrect adjustment.
Module III
Diagnosing Complex Mechanical Faults Under Pressure
Objectives :
Building diagnostic skills through the sharing of experience among participants and practical exercises in which they take turns identifying faults.
Theoretical and Practical Content:
• Fault-Finding Lab: Analysing real but reversible mechanical faults deliberately introduced on my own instrument.
• Acoustic Diagnosis Through Playing: Learning a systematic, playing-based diagnostic procedure to pinpoint the exact source of a problem.
• Mapping Air Leaks: Precisely identifying the area of the bore where the fault originates. Analysing the symptoms in detail: is it an air leak or a sluggish key mechanism (a spring, a dirty or compressed cork, rust on a key rod, a bent pillar, etc.)? At exactly which note does the response begin to suffer?
• Action Plan: Formulating the ideal technical solution to resolve the identified problem.
Module IV
Emergency Maintenance, Advanced Instrument Care and Final Assessment
Objectives :
Writing Sharing valuable and instructive experiences with fellow participants, for everyone’s benefit. Where necessary, tackling a complex problem on an instrument brought along by a participant (replacing a tenon cork, improving the pad seal of the E-flat key, adjusting the low B/B-flat key rod, etc.).
Theoretical and Practical Content:
• Sharing Best Practices for Critical Situations: Discussing and demonstrating solutions to challenging problems, such as a loose octave mechanism, a rusted key rod, an emergency repair to a crack running through a tone hole, quickly replacing a pad or a spring broken flush with its mounting point, and replacing a tenon cork.
• Final Technical Inspection: Carrying out a thorough check to ensure that all instruments are working optimally.
• Wrap-up and Next Steps: Reviewing the workshop, exploring opportunities for future collaboration, and handing out certificates and end-of-course documents.
